Dear friends,
Muhammad Mosa Khan is only nine months old. He can't even pick up his bottle without help from a grown-up. Yet police in Pakistan still charged him with attempted murder -- and forced him to appear in court.
In February, the gas electricity was cut off in Muhammad's family's poor neighborhood. When the police arrived to demand payment for the services, residents -- including members of Muhammad's family -- threw rocks at them. They were then arrested for attempted "murder."
It's absurd enough for police to equate having a rock thrown at them with attempted murder. But making matters even more ridiculous, the cops included baby Muhammad in the charges, too.
Muhammad then had to appear in court, drinking his bottle on his grandfather's lap, because the j udge did not have the power to dismiss the case. Eventually, he was granted bail.
The whole situation shows the disturbing degree to which police officers will exert their power, even if it means accusing an infant of trying to kill someone.
The Punjab Chief Minister has promised to take "stern action" against the police officials who registered the case. Sign the petition to demand that the officers who arrested Muhammad will be fully disciplined!
| Thank you for taking action,
